ICT Research secured by far the biggest piece of the new
EU budget for R&D over the next seven years. That is €9
billion of a total €54 billion but the amount might beggar
question: to what end? In November, a conference took place in Helsinki
to showcase technologies whose development was supported from concept
stage by earlier Framework Programmes.
Finnish Funding. How Finland funds technology
Finland is ranked as one of the world's leading nations in terms
of technology. It currently invests around 3.5% of its GDP in research
and development - equivalent to some €5.4 billions. The Finnish
government recently set a new goal: by 2010 some 4% of its GDP should
be invested in R&D.
