Kent Westergård, diretor de projetos especiais e vendas da área de termelétricas da finlandesa Wärtsila, está sediado em Vaasa, cidade que fica 400 quilômetros ao Noroeste de Helsinki. Na pacata Vaasa, com 60 mil habitantes, a Wärtsila tem uma fábrica de motores para geração elétrica e propulsão de navios. Nesta semana, porém, as atenções de Westergard estão mais voltadas para o setor elétrico brasileiro. "Temos grande interesse no leilão de energia nova", diz Westergård.

Em março de 2006, a companhia finlandesa Dynea iniciará um investimento de US$ 2 milhões para ampliar uma de suas plantas brasileiras, na cidade paranaense de Araucária. A unidade, que fabrica papéis metálicos, aglomerados de madeira e diversos tipos de resinas, é resultado de uma joint-venture com a companhia chilena Arauco. Com a ampliação, que deve ser finalizada até dezembro de 2006, a fábrica aumentará em até 35% sua produção de formol. Além disso, a companhia prevê incrementar sua participação no mercado brasileiro.

The Finns have devised an alternative to the Nobel prize, but researchers in genetically modified (GM) organisms need to apply. The €1m ($1.3m) Millennium technology prize will not be awarded to technologies deemed to fall within ethical grey areas, such as GM according to the Millennium Prize Foundation in Helsinki.
