Infrastructure – focus on logistics services (incl. the Vuosaari Harbour Centre)

Finland is logistically interesting place, as it plays an important role in cargo transit traffic to the Russian market. Finland is also a country of long distances, and this brings certain infrastructural and logistical challenges.

This tour presents solutions to these challenges by Finnish companies. The tour consists also of a visit to a new harbour in Helsinki, which will be opened in November 2008. Vuosaari Harbour Centre will be a modern harbour centre that comprises of cargo harbour, logistics area, traffic channels and a business park.

Efficient education and innovation system – focus on forest industry

According to PISA studies (2000, 2003 and 2006), reading and mathematical skills of Finnish youngsters is the best in the OECD countries. The skills in natural sciences and problem-solving are also top of the class.

Finnish innovation system is praised globally. The innovation network of companies, research units, universities, technological organizations and financing and governmental bodies invests as much as 3.5% of GDP to R&D, which is the second highest number in the OECD.

This tour represents the forest industry, one of the core sectors of the Finnish economy, and how it plays an essential role in the high-level education and innovation systems.
