Rautaruukki Corporation looks on REACH as an important part of the company’s environmental responsibility. The company carries out all the obligations in the chemical Regulation, as a producer, importer and downstream user.

Rautaruukki which is well-known in the lifting equipment and transportation equipment industries, supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems for construction and the engineering industry. The company has a wide-ranging selection of products and services in metal products.

“We look on the chemical Regulation as an important part of companies’ environmental responsibility. Ruukki is playing its part thoroughly in the improvement of chemicals safety that is taking place with the Regulation,” stresses Esa Virolainen, the REACH development engineer.

Pre-registration under preparation

The company, which uses the marketing name Ruukki, has followed REACH’s gradual evolution through the years and also taken part in cooperation associated with it.

“The tasks that come with the obligations in the Regulation have been charted, an organization functioning around the Regulation has been formed and we’ve taken on a new employee to work full-time on REACH,” Virolainen says.

He goes on to say that the Regulation is causing a considerable amount of work that will, however, even out with cooperation. As all the details are not yet absolutely clear, the final amount of work is difficult to estimate at this stage.

“At present we are preparing to deal with the pre-registration of substances that we produce and import,” Virolainen says.
