Safety technology watches over a boat on behalf of its owners. Thanks to technology, boaters can now check on their boats at any time through a mobile phone and Internet browser.
A boat is often the apple of its owner’s eye and its security a source of constant concern. Telemic Oy, which produces GSM-based control and alarm devices, has developed a remote-control and monitoring system for boat-owners.
Technology called BoatControl prevents material damage and spares owners much annoyance. The system warns the owner on a mobile phone about exceptional situations such as the boat being broken into or a fire.
The owner also receives information about bilge water, accumulator voltage and a sudden fall in temperature. The GPS-based anchor watch indicates whether the boat is moving outside the area designated for it.
Security and peace of mind
“Information comes to the owner immediately if an accident has occurred, so major damage can be averted. Once the alarm has come, checking the situation with a remote camera is quick and easy,” says Hannu Väänänen, Telemic’s managing director.
“The opportunity to inspect with a remote camera gives the boater peace of mind without needless trips to check on the boat.”
Väänänen says that it is easy to use the system with an Internet user-interface or with your own mobile phone. The only thing the boater needs to worry about is turning the surveillance on or off.
In addition to improving security, the boater can raise the temperature on board the boat by means of BoatControl before arriving at the boat and use remote-control for the lights and air conditioning. The remote camera enables owners to receive pictures of the boat in the form of an MMS message on their mobile phone whenever they want to.
