Forest Industry:
Production process increases competitive edge
M-real's production process for defibrating wood and treating
fibres is based on many new technical perceptions and solutions
that have not been used elsewhere in the world. The bleached
chemithermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) process is a production
process that is not only more environment-friendly but also
more economical.
The innovation of the Metsäliitto Group subsidiary has
made it possible to combine a BCTMP mill with an existing
pulp mill. The joint supply of chemicals and energy, environmental
conservation and logistics create many technical and financial
benefits - with both parties profiting from the integration.
BCTMP responds to the quality and environmental demands of
the packaging industry and users of printed products. It is
in particular demand among customers for printing paper, fine
paper and packaging board.
BCTMP is making rapid advances on the markets in Europe, North
America and especially in the Far East. Production worldwide
is about six million tonnes a year. In 2006 M-real will be
the world's foremost producer of BCTMP with more than 600,000
tonnes.

same way as in Finland.
