Competitiveness helped by environment
Finnish environmental expertise, eco-efficiency
and the sustainable use of natural resources are based on
the country's own natural resources, its northern location
and natural conditions. Nature has always been an important
part of life and business life to Finns. Competitiveness and
sustainable development go hand in hand.
Down the years Finland has been the birthplace of a large
amount of expertise that supports sustainable development
and can be exploited on the export market. Environmental technology
is developing into the growth sector of the century.
Environment still in front
Finnish companies are groundbreakers in environmental conservation.
Companies with a production structure requiring a great deal
of energy and raw materials have, naturally, invested in the
efficient use of natural resour-ces for cost reasons. At the
same time companies have reduced waste and emissions dramatically
by developing systems and practices that are sparing on the
environment.
In an environmentally-aware culture environmental matters
are part of everyday business. Industrial plants' role in
causing environmental emissions has been reduced enormously
even though output has increased. So it has been possible
to combine cost-effectiveness and eco-?efficiency successfully.
An indication of the high level of environmental conservation
kindled at an early stage and the adoption of sustainable
development is shown by Finland being ranked year after year
among the best countries in the world in international comparisons.
Finland knows the environment
The greatest expectations on the rapidly expanding environmental
technology market are associated with preventing climate change,
such as energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy. In
many energy-production solutions, such as in the fields of
bioenergy and the combined production of electricity and heating,
Finland ranks among the best in the world. Finnish areas of
expertise include monitoring and control systems, efficient
industrial processes, climate and energy technologies, water
and waste water management and waste management. New eco-innovations
are being created constantly.
On global markets, however, a small country will not survive
on its own: international questions demand international answers.
In Finland emphasis is given to the networking and internationalization
of environmental technology and expertise.
Guaranteeing its own success and its competitive eco-nomy
will enable Finland to promote sustainable development worldwide,
which in turn will support Finland and the competitiveness
of Finnish companies.
