Electronics
and Electrotechnics Industry:
Tagging more effectively
UPM Raflatac has developed a new-generation production technology
that can be used to produce RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
tags more cost-effectively and flexibly. Production capacity
can be increased quickly as demand grows. The change is significant
compared with the earlier production concept. The new technology
also achieves a more even and improved quality.
The RFID tags developed and produced by UPM Raflatac are
used in smart cards and stickers for purposes such as product
recognition and storage control. The most important areas
of application are retail-trade logistics, libraries, authentication
of products' origin and controlling the pharmaceutical industry's
delivery chain.
According to forecasts, sales of equipment using RFID technology,
software, consulting and services will go up from 400 million
dollars (2004) to about 4.2 billion dollars by 2011.
