Food Industry:
Rye phenomenon spreads
The eating of rye bread is a growing trend. There has been intense research into the health effects of rye in recent years both in Finland and elsewhere throughout the world. The traditional Finnish delicacy has proved to be a veritable health bomb.
Fazer Leipomot is a groundbreaker in studying the health effects of corn and, in particular, rye bread. Now all the information and expertise have been collected under the Ruis (Rye) by Fazer programme, which aims to increase information about the use of whole rye bread as part of the diet.
The programme has made Fazer conspicuous in various international cooperation projects. For example, the 16-million-euro Healthgrain project, which is supported by the EU, involves dozens of European companies and research institutes. There is particular interest in rye products in Germany, and also in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
