Industry:
Construction more competitive with wood
The highest wood-structure office building in Europe is
situated in Finland. This tour de force in wood construction,
which was completed at Espoo in the summer of 2005, gives
an idea not only of Finnish expertise in wood products but
in particular of the competitiveness of wood in medium-height
construction.
The Finnforest Modular Office (FMO) concept developed by
Finnforest makes it possible to design individual wood-structured
office buildings utilizing a modular frame system with stressed-skin
panels. The approach is all-embracing as it extends to the
interior premises, which can be divided and adapted with flexible
partition and acoustic structures.
FMO Tapiola is a response to challenging life-cycle and
eco-efficiency demands. In order to create a pleasant, healthy
and safe work environment, the starting points for the building
solutions were the unconventional use of wood, life-cycle
properties and environmental effects of the materials, energy
efficiency and indoor climate, and the lighting and acoustics
effects.
