ELCOTEQ INAUGURATES NEW FACILITY IN BANGALORE, INDIA
31.03.2005

Elcoteq Network Corporation, the leading electronics manufacturing services provider in communications technology, will inaugurate a new manufacturing facility in India’s software capital, Bangalore, on April 11, 2005. When fully operational, the plant is estimated to employ approximately 1,000 people. The start of business operations in India reinforces the importance of the Asia-Pacific area to Elcoteq and its commitment to development of the electronics manufacturing industry on the global basis.

The facility will be inaugurated by India’s Union Minister of Communications & Information Technology, Mr Shri Dayanidhi Maran. Elcoteq’s top management including the Chairman of the Board, Mr Antti Piippo and the President and CEO of Elcoteq, Mr Jouni Hartikainen will also be present.

The inauguration is a landmark not just for Bangalore and the state of Karnataka but also for entire India as Elcoteq is the first high-volume electronics manufacturing services company in India for global communications technology sector. The products to be manufactured include terminal products like mobile phones and communications network equipment.

With a population of over one billion people, mobile phone penetration of a mere 3%, and a telecommunications services market growing at over 100% annually, India represents one of the most exciting regions for handset OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and EMS (electronics manufacturing services) providers. Given the huge opportunity, cost advantages, availability of highly skilled manpower, infrastructure and software development facilities, proximity of key suppliers and the government’s agenda for telecommunications and electronics manufacturing, Bangalore is an extremely attractive location.

Media representatives are cordially invited to join the inauguration ceremony.
