Helsinki Chemicals Forum joins chemical industry influencers

Helsinki Chemicals Forum, an annual event established to address international influencers of the chemical industry, will take place in Helsinki, Finland. The Forum will assemble physically every year but will also provide an ongoing ground for discussion and contribute to chemical industry’s research and future globally. The city of Helsinki, European Chemicals Agency, the Finnish Chemical Industry Association and HelsinkiUniversity are important partners of the Forum. The event will be organised for the first time in May 2009.

In the future, Helsinki Chemicals Forum will be organised as an annual international thought-leader event. The Forum brings together for two days important actors of the chemical sector: specialists, researchers, political decision-makers, authorities, industry representatives, consumers, associations and other decision-makers. The Forum will focus on the latest issues and developments and encourages the dialogue between different stakeholders and market areas. The objective is to influence globally the future of chemical industry, research and dominant discussion topics of sustainable development.

"Sustainability, safety and competitiveness of chemical industry are more and more debated all over the world. Bringing this debate to a high level Forum is the next challenge. A genuinely international and interactive chemical industry Forum of this calibre has not existed before. The seat of the European Chemicals Agency, Helsinki, provides a natural location for this Forum," says Geert Dancet, Executive Director of European Chemicals Agency and member of HCF Advisory Board.

”In addition to providing international networking and influencing opportunities we want to emphasise the role of chemical industry in securing the well being of people and environment. The chemical industry sector can shape better life for both economies and citizens and these opportunities should be prioritised also in the industry and research”, highlights Kyösti Sysiö, General Secretary of Helsinki Chemicals Forum 2009.

We have established an Advisory Board for HCF that aims at developing the event further. The international event strengthens the role of Helsinki as a central place for the chemical industry but also as a well-positioned meeting point. Helsinki is a well-known and safe congress city that provides functional and high quality services surrounded by beautiful landscapes,” tells Jussi Pajunen, the Mayor of Helsinki City and Chairman of HCF Advisory Board.

The organising power behind Helsinki Chemicals Forum is a non-profit organisation Chemicals Forum Association. The city of Helsinki, European Chemicals Agency, the Finnish Chemical Industry Association and Helsinki University are important partners of the Forum.

Helsinki Chemicals Forum will be organized for the first time in 27-29 of May 2009 at the Helsinki Fair Centre. Additional information about speakers, program and themes will be announced in September 2008.
