Second Prisma hypermarket in Lithuania

SOK to open a second Prisma hypermarket in Vilnius, Lithuania. The unit, located in Olinda shopping centre, will open in spring 2010.

SOK's subsidiary UAB Prisma LT has concluded an agreement on a second Prisma hypermarket. The second Prisma will be located in Olinda shopping centre, the construction of which will begin in the autumn of 2008. Olinda is owned by the real estate development and investment company Vicus Oy and its Lithuanian partner.

- Prisma will have an excellent location as the anchor of the shopping centre in the Pašilaičiai district, where Vilnius will be expanded. After some years, a busy ring road will be passing the area. The target group of the Prisma store is local residents, that is, families with children, says Anu Huuska, Managing Director of UAB Prisma LT.

Olinda will be developed into a high-standard shopping centre with around one hundred speciality stores, services and restaurants. The Finnish developer is going to bring international brands to the centre, some of which have not yet entered the Lithuanian market.

- We believe that Prisma's strong concept will make Olinda attractive to both customers and other tenants, says Markus Jaakonsaari, Director of Vicus Limited.

Prisma will occupy an area of approximately 11,000 square metres and employ around 120 people. There will be space for approximately 60,000 items.

- We are planning to open five Prismas in different locations in the city. Prisma's competitive advantage in Vilnius will be a permanently low price level, wide range of products and easy shopping, Huuska says.

The Prisma chain is strongly internationalising. The first Lithuanian Prisma is set to open in spring 2009 in the OZAS centre. In Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, Prisma ihas five Prisma stores. In Riga, Latvia, there is a Prisma in Domina shopping centre. The first Prisma Superstore will be opened in the very centre of the city of St. Petersburg in summer 2008.
