Press release 11 October 2006
Tallinns fifth Prisma opens for business
AS Prisma Peremarket, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SOK,
is today opening its fifth Prisma in Tallinn, in the Lasnamäe
city district. The hypermarket provides more than one hundred
new jobs. Next summer will also see the opening of a garden
centre at the Lasnamäe Prisma.
Covering approximately 10,000 sq. metres, the new Prisma
puts the chain in a strong position, particularly in the local
area which includes the city districts of Lasnamäe and
Pirita and the rural municipality of Viimsi, home to 130,000
inhabitants in all. The project also has significant economic
impacts in that its overall costs are likely to exceed EUR
10 million.
Prismas competitive edges continue to be its
consistently reasonable price level, its wide-ranging assortments
and ease of shopping. The Lasnamäe store is a major addition
to our range of services, says Leena Laitinen,
Country Director.
The S Group opened the four Prisma hyperm arkets it already
has in the Tallinn area in the Sikupilli city district and
the Rocca al Mare Shopping Centre in 2000 and in the Mustamäe
and Kristiine city districts in 2002.
Sales by Prismas in Tallinn have risen considerably
in 2006. The chains market share of around 23 per cent
makes Prisma the market leader in the hypermarket category
in the Tallinn area. The stores have 700 employees on their
payrolls, says Ms Laitinen.
The Finnish S Group comprises 22 regional cooperative enterprises
and SOK Corporation with its subsidiaries. SOK currently imports
and retails Peugeot vehicles in Latvia (AS Lauva Auto). SOKs
Baltic companies have around 1,100 employees on their payrolls,
and sales in 2006 will rise to top the EUR 200 million mark.
The S Group has around 32,000 employees and in 2005, its sales
in Finland and abroad came to EUR 8.6 billion.
