Announcement of 2008 Millennium Technology Prize Finalists - Invitation to a live webcast

The 2008 Millennium Technology Prize Finalists will be announced on 8 April 2008.
Please join us for the live webcast of a press conference at which the four Finalists for the 2008 Millennium Technology Prize will be revealed. The names of the Finalists and details of their innovations will be announced at 2.00 p.m. GMT. Announcements will be made simultaneously at press conferences in Helsinki, London, Paris and New York and a live webcast of the event will be available at www.millenniumprize.fi starting at 1.45 p.m. GMT.
All of the Finalists will be in Finland for Millennium Technology Week in June. The ultimate Winner will be announced on 11 June, and will be awarded a prize of EUR 800 000 at the Grand Award Ceremony on that day. The other Finalists will each receive sums of EUR 115 000, bringing the total prize sum to EUR 1.15 million.
The Millennium Technology Prize is Finland’s tribute to life-enhancing technological innovation. Awarded every second year for a technological innovation that is significantly improving the quality of human life today and in the future, it is the world’s biggest technology prize. The Millennium Technology Prize is awarded by the Millennium Prize Foundation, an independent fund established by Finnish industry and the Finnish state in partnership.
Previous Winners of the Millennium Technology Prize are Tim Berners-Lee, 2004, for the invention of the World Wide Web and Shuji Nakamura, 2006, for the invention of bright-blue, green and white LEDs and a blue laser diode.
