Planmeca Oy, which produces high-tech dental equipment, is the third-largest producer in its field in Europe. It makes dental equipment that is integrated into an all-in-one unit at the dentist's surgery. Ergonomic considerations are of special importance in the design of Planmeca's products.

The biggest development project in the company's history, the Planmeca ProMax dental X-ray equipment, made its first appearance in the spring. Its design has taken into account the latest scientific studies, and it includes many features that have not been taken into consideration before in X-ray equipment for the teeth and head region. The equipment's imaging column structure is, in fact, a three-joint robot hand that operates just like a human arm.

At the beginning of the year Planmeca Oy was awarded first prize in the Milestones competition in Germany, in the medium-sized company globalization category. Milestones is Europe's biggest competition for business life. Planmeca was the only foreign company to win an award. More than 98 per cent of the company's production is exported to more than 80 countries.
