"Netti-Nysse", the Internet bus from Tampere, has received eGovernment "best practice" recognition from the European Commission. This recognition is granted to the best examples of electronic management practice in Europe. The awarded Internet bus travels around the city, helping to familiarise locals with the information society. Tampere's senior citizens have been especially enthusiastic.

The Internet bus, remodelled from a former articulated public transport bus, began operations in the summer of 2001. Its goal was to remove ignorance related to the Internet and the latest information technology. The bus gives guidance on using computers, the Internet or even mobile phones. 10,000 of Tampere's 200,000 inhabitants have already become acquainted with the services of the bus.

The old bus has modern telecommunications connections. The best Internet connection is created at bus stops with W-Lan antennas or by mobile connections such as high speed GSM or GPRS.
