Because nobody can be an expert in all fields, it is worth
concentrating on what you do best. OnePoint offers its expertise
in areas outside companies' core activities.
OnePoint started its operations this year, a service and
infrastructure company situated at Kokkola in an area given
over to large-scale industry. The operations are based on
highly professional personnel and an effective co-partner
and subcontractor network.
"Our aim is to promote the competitiveness of companies
in the whole area of operations by providing and developing
infrastructure services and support services for production.
While we handle the services, customers can concentrate on
their own operations" says Vesa Pihlajamaa, a director.
All the basic services from "one point"
OnePoint's business operations are all basic services, the
infrastructure needed by production and the provision of support
services, which include planning and design, maintenance,
transportation, security, quality control as well as personnel,
finances and occupational safety and health.
Pihlajamaa says that OnePoint combines the volumes of the
various companies in the area so that services and materials
can be acquired with less trouble and expense and with more
quality than if each one were to do these things itself. The
advantage of OnePoint is seen most clearly when a new player
comes on the scene.
"A new production plant can construct its own production
process and join one point already in operation in its area,
from where it obtains all the basic services it needs. At
the same time the use of a common infrastructure increases,
and with that cost-effectiveness improves."
Innovations and cooperation
The concept of service companies like OnePoint is spreading
throughout western Europe. There are other similar enterprises
in Finland besides OnePoint.
"We try to be skilful in recognizing customers' needs
and in searching for the most suitable solution for those
needs from our broad co-partner network at any given time."
"You need to be innovative and cooperate with other players
when you are producing services," Pihlajamaa emphasizes.
