The chemicals company Kemira will be strengthening its
position as the world's leading water treatment chemicals
company by acquiring the water treatment chemicals business
of the American chemicals company Cytec. The acquisition is
a major conquest for Kemira.
The revenue from Cytec's water treatment chemical business
totalled some 270 million euros, which means that the revenue
from Kemira's water treatment chemicals business will almost
double to some 650 million euros.
Cytec's business operations consist mainly of water treatment
solutions for industry and municipal waste water treatment
plants. The transaction includes five production plants operating
in the USA, South America, Asia and Europe.
"This acquisition is a major step for the expansion
of our water treatment chemical business. With this acquisition,
we can broaden our current product portfolio and strengthen
our geographical presence on our main markets and inside our
most important customer segments", says Mats Jungar,
the
President of Kemira's Kemwater business area.
Business of the future
Water treatment chemicals is a sector that is expanding rapidly
worldwide. There are growth expectations in China and Russia
in particular, but the use of water treatment chemicals is
on the increase in Europe, too. For example, the dephosphorization
of waste water outside Scandinavia is still quite modest.
With the eutrophication of waterways, pressure for treatment
will increase.
The water treatment chemical business is a business of the
future. Increasing environmental awareness and legislation
as well as the need to reduce waste and optimize costs in
water treatment processes are causing demand to increase,"
confirms Mats Jungar.
Kemira's water treatment chemical business is the leading
global supplier of inorganic coagulants. It offers solutions
for water and sludge treatment at municipal and private water
treatment plants and in industry in about 30 countries.
