Companies are increasingly outsourcing their personnel
solutions. These days more and more job applicants are also
outsourcing their application processes. Adiente Oy is a Finnish
company operating between the companies and applicants by
meeting both challenges.
According to a questionnaire by the Confederation of Finnish
Industries (EK), the supply of and demand for services aimed
at companies such as IT, logistics, research and development
and various human-resource services, is on the increase. Companies
are seeking efficiency and flexibility by, for example, increasing
leased labour.
Adiente, which started its operations this year, leases,
acts as agent for and recruits young, competent and enthusiastic
people with language skills for client companies. "We
offer challenging jobs commensurate with studies. The people
employed through us are recent graduates and students - people
who do not, as yet, have much work experience, but who can
develop into Finland's next management generation as experience
accumulates," says Erica Flinck, the managing director.
New recruitment model works
Adiente is situated in the mid-ground between the traditional
employment agencies and head-hunting companies. "We always
aim for a successful leasing relationship to convert into
a recruiting commission i.e. for the people we lease to be
so competent at work that the client does not want them to
finish."
The operating model is that the client hires a person for
4-5 months, after which he or she is recruited for permanent
employment and a more demanding job. Then Adiente sends the
next competent candidate to the company for a new leasing
relationship. The recruiting guarantee ensures that the right
person is found for the right job.
"The model has proved to be a very good recruiting channel
for companies," Flinck says happily. "If you take
good care of the customer, the company takes care of itself.
This means in practice that customers who return are the best
sign of success."
Work and psychological support
Adiente offers flexibility and choice for job applicants'
working life in the form of various job opportunities. Students
can also outsource their job application process to Adiente.
"Broad working experience in different fields and different
tasks increases a person's competence as a worker and helps
them find their own place in working life. We try to improve
students' preparedness to step into the challenges of working
life by offering pyschological support during their studies
and once they step into working life."

EK worforce questionnaire:
Finland's leased labour average for EU
A workforce questionnaire by the Confederation of Finnish
Industries (EK) shows that the amount of leased labour
in the private sector has almost doubled in Finland
in three years. Whereas in 2001 leased labour accounted
for 1.2 per cent of the entire workforce, the corresponding
figure in 2004 was 2.3 per cent.
At the moment the use of leased labour in Finland is
average compared with other EU countries. Leased labour
is used most in Great Britain and the Netherlands, where
it accounts for about 4.5 per cent of the workforce.
In Finland the amount of leased labour has gone up
in industry in particular (2.1%). Leased labour is used
actively in the technology industry, but most generally
it is in construction. One in four building companies
had leased employees in 2004 (4.7%).
In services the proportion of leased labour has risen
from 1.4 to 2.2 per cent in three years. Leased labour
is found most commonly in the catering industry, where
almost one fifth of the companies use it (6.9%).
