SMART CLOTHING
Smart clothing refers to a marriage of clothing and information
technology. The conventional functionality of clothing has
been enhanced or completely new features have been added.
Reima has been researching the potential of smart clothing
for a couple of years now. Its prototype will monitor the
wearer's heart rate, the temperature inside and outside the
attire, the wearer's position and movements, and any rapid
moisture changes. On the basis of these measurements, smart
clothing is able to take action with regard to the user's
welfare. In the case of an accident, it can independently
send a distress call and provide information on the person's
location and vital functions. The first commercial product
based on Reima's development work, the information technology
and GSM technology-based Reima Smart Shout, should be ready
in the summer of 2001.
