Textile Industry and Design:
Finland number one in 2005

The Finnish Government gave a decision in principle concerning its policy on design on 15 June 2000. The aim is to create a dynamic design system in Finland that will lead to Finland achieving a leading position in the utilization of design. The aim is to make Finnish design the best in the world by 2005.

“In Sweden the government and media have set off strongly on a similar campaign that will make Swedish design the world’s number one by 2006. Action and support are needed in Finland in order to achieve our aim,” states Kirsti Paakkanen.

Cooperation among the public sector, business life and society is creating the conditions for enhancing the quality of design and for exploiting design’s possibilities on a wide scale, in order to improve competitiveness and employment and to develop the quality of the environment and a distinctive national culture.
