Safety Technologies:
NOKIA ALSO PROTECTS NETWORKS
To the general public Nokia is the worlds biggest producer
of mobile phones. It is less well known in the data security
field, but Nokia Internet Communications supplies firewall,
VPN and intrusion-detection systems worldwide.
The research company IDC reckons that Nokias products
are the leader in the most cut-throat market of all i.e. firewall/Virtual
Private Network equipment ($1,000 - $5,000) and in second
position on the entire firewall, VPN and intrusion-detection
systems market.
Nokia was one of the first companies to launch security
equipment, and it is excellently placed to keep its position
on this fiercely-competitive market, says Charles Kolodgy,
IDCs head of research.
In the firewall and VPN products Nokia cooperates with the
Israeli company Check Point Software Technologies. In 2003
Information Security Excellence Awards chose Nokias
equipment as the winner of the VPN series. Information Security
is a magazine which every year holds a competition asking
subscribers to rate the data security products they use on
a scale of one to five.
In intrusion-detection systems Nokia uses the American Information
Security Systems software. RealSecure 7.0 was brought
out in April 2003, and Nokia itself described the solution
as the next-generation intrusion protection system.
RealSecure cannot only monitor large amounts of network activity
but also actively respond to attacks and prevent them.
