Food Industry:
CHEWING GUM THAT PREVENTS TOOTH DECAY

The importance of xylitol in dental care was discovered in Finland at the beginning of the 1970s when scientists at the University of Turku demonstrated that it prevented tooth decay. In 1975 Leaf launched the world's first xylitol chewing gum, the Xylitol Jenkki. Leaf has studied xylitol and the benefits of xylitol gum in dental care for over 20 years. The XyliFresh all-xylitol chewing gum, formulated on the basis of Finnish research and product development, is also sold outside of Finland. The latest conquest is Japan, where the product was introduced in 1999.
