Construction and the Construction Products Industry:
WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT AT ST
PETERBURG
YIT Construction Ltd is the biggest building company in Finland.
Its most significant new international building project is
the southwest waste water treatment plant at St Petersburg.
It is being built in association with NCC and Skanska. The
plant is the most important of the environmental protection
projects to improve the condition of the Gulf of Finland and
the Baltic Sea. The plant has been dimensioned to handle the
treatment of waste water from more than 700,000 people. The
total cost of the project is 128 million euros. The new plant
is due to be ready by the beginning of 2005.
Japan’s Moscow embassy
YIT is building a new embassy for Japan in Moscow in association
with the Shimizu Corporation construction company. The contract
includes the construction work and also applying the finishing
touches as well as installing the heating, plumbing, air conditioning
and electricity.
The building’s total area is 16,000 m2. The project’s
main contractor is the Shimizu Corporation and it has been
commissioned by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
YIT Corporation is a fully inclusive service company operating
in construction, industry and telecommunications networks.
YIT Building Ltd is the biggest construction company in Finland.
Besides Finland, the Group’s main market area is Scandinavia,
the Baltic countries and Russia. A fifth of YIT’s turnover
is generated outside Finnish borders. The international operations
will grow on the Scandinavian market for industrial services
and technical facility services and on the Baltic and Russian
construction markets.
