Construction and the Construction Products Industry:
PORTAL TO THE VIRTUAL VILLAGE
A digital neighbourhood for the new millennium is going up
in the Arabianranta section of Helsinki. A centre for industrial
art, with its expertise and information networks, will become
the functional core of the area. The construction of the first
phase, the Portal office building, commenced in the autumn
of 2000. The Portal will be hooked up to a broadband information
network that will facilitate the production and distribution
of new products and services. Plans for Arabianranta call
for the neighbourhood to provide homes for 8,000 residents
and 5,000 jobs.
