Boost for Finnish economy from chemistry
An economic maelstrom whirls around us and the prospects are dim. How long will the depression last? Pessimists talk about years, optimists already see faint signs of growth. The business trend survey of Finnish companies at this moment is quite gloomy. The collapse in the first few months of the year was sharper than expected three months ago. A turn for the better is not yet in sight.

World economy on shaky ground
Information depicting the trend in the global economy is still very gloomy. The contraction in total output in the United States continued as expected in the first quarter of this year and at about the same rate as in October-December, i.e. more than 6 per cent (annualised).
