Finland's Major Export Sectors, 2006
The most important export sectors in Finland are the technological
industry (the electrical and electro-technical industry),
the metals and mechanical engineering industry and the forest
industry. Together they account for nearly 80 % of Finland's
total exports. The next biggest export sector is the chemical
industry.

Finland has traditionally been a small, open economy with
a large export sector in relation to its GNP. The export-driven
growth of the 1990s allowed Finland to maintain economic stability
during the recession. Since then, the ratio of exports to
gross national product has risen to record heights.

Investment abroad and foreign investment in Finland have
increased enormously in the last ten years, especially within
the last five years. Sweden has remained the most important
immediate investor country. Other major immediate investor
countries in 2005 were the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
