R&D expenditure by sector in 2000-2005 and GDP share
of R&D expenditure
Nearly EUR 5.5 billion was expended on research and development
in Finland 2005. R&D expenditure grew by four per cent
from 2004, or by almost the same amount as in the previous
year. In terms of figures the growth amounted to EUR 220 million,
of which EUR 193 million came from the enterprise sector and
EUR 25 million from research institutes in the public sector.
The engine behind the growth was the electronics industry
where investments in R&D went up by nearly seven per cent
from 2004.

R&D expenditure in OECD countries and other countries
in 2005-2006
Over the past 10 to 15 years, R&D investments in Finnish
industries have grown more rapidly than in other OECD countries,
at an annual rate of about 10 per cent. With this pace of
growth, Finland's R&D input in relation to its GNP is
one of the highest in the world.
