Finland is one of Europe's leading biotechnology countries.
Over 100 bio companies are located in Finland, which amounts
to roughly ten per cent of European bioindustry companies.
Nearly one half of new Finnish biocompanies focus on wellbeing,
which includes the development of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics,
functional foods and biomaterials. The other half provides
research and technology transfer services.

The role of universities and other biotech research centres
A distinctive feature of Finnish biotechnology companies
is their close co-operation with universities and bio and
technology centers. The most important biotechnology centers
are located in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and in Turku,
Oulu, Kuopio and Tampere.
