Metals Industry

The production and finishing of steel and other metals is a truly global industry in Finland, as over 70 per cent of output is exported to over 60 countries. The globally recognised Finnish companies have production in some 20 countries. Steel roofing and cladding, welded steel pipes and coated sheets are some of the items that epitomise Finnish expertise in making highly processed products. Finland itself is home to the manufacture of steel, copper, zinc and nickel, as well as many forms of copper processing. The industry's use of raw materials, energy consumption and emissions, per unit produced, are among the lowest in the world. The excess heat generated during production is effectively harnessed. In the best cases, process energy is used in district heating systems that heat entire communities. Metal is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
